ভার্চুয়াল রিয়ালিটি ক্যামেরা ‘ওজো’ এবং হার্ডওয়্যার তৈরি বন্ধ করছে নোকিয়া। এই কারণে ৩১০ জন পর্যন্ত কর্মী ছাঁটাইয়ের পরিকল্পনাও করছে ফিনিশ প্রযুক্তি প্রতিষ্ঠানটি।
রয়টার্স-এর প্রতিবেদনে উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে- নোকিয়া টেকনোলজিস বিভাগ থেকে এই কর্মীদের ছাঁটাই করা হবে। মঙ্গলবার প্রতিষ্ঠানটির পক্ষ থেকে ওই সিদ্ধান্ত জানানো হয়।
নোকিয়া’র এই বিভাগে মোট কর্মী রয়েছে ১০৯০ জন। ফিনল্যান্ড, মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্র ও যুক্তরাজ্য থেকে কর্মীদের ছাঁটাই করার পরিকল্পনা রয়েছে প্রতিষ্ঠানটির। চলতি বছরের জুন পর্যন্ত প্রতিষ্ঠানের মোট কর্মী সংখ্যা ছিল ১০২০০ জন।
ভিআর ক্যামেরা ও হার্ডওয়্যার তৈরি বন্ধ করা হলেও ডিজিটাল স্বাস্থ্য, পেটেন্ট ও ব্রান্ড লাইসেন্সিং চালিয়ে যাবে নোকিয়া’র এই বিভাগটি।
প্রতিষ্ঠানের বিবৃতিতে বলা হয়, “ভিআর বাজারের উন্নয়ন প্রত্যাশার চেয়ে ধীর গতিতে এগোচ্ছে। ফলে নোকিয়া টেকনোলজিস-এর বিনিয়োগ কমানোর পরিকল্পনা রয়েছে এবং প্রযুক্তি লাইসেন্সিংয়ে নজর আরও বাড়ানো হচ্ছে।”
নেটওয়ার্ক সরঞ্জাম তৈরি বর্তমানে নোকিয়া’র মূল ব্যবসা। আগের বছর ডিজিটাল মিডিয়া ব্যবসার জন্য প্রথমবার ক্যামেরা উন্মোচন করে প্রতিষ্ঠানটি, যা প্রতিষ্ঠানের ভবিষ্যত বাড়াতে সহায়তা করবে বলে ধারণা করা হয়েছিল।
৩ডি সিনেমা ও গেইমিং ভিডিও করার লক্ষ্যেই নকশা করা হয় ক্যামেরাটি। এর মাধ্যমে ধারণকৃত ভিডিও ভিআর হেডসেটে দেখা যায়। আগের বছর ক্যামেরাটির দাম ২৫ শতাংশ কমিয়ে ৪৫ হাজার মার্কিন ডলার করে নোকিয়া।
