999 to inaugurate emergency services on Tuesday

The long wait is going to end tomorrow, Tuesday. Toll Free Help Desk service 999 is officially inaugurated on this day.

Prime Minister’s Information and Communication Technology Advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy will inaugurate the service through an event at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Tuesday.

By calling toll free as 999, citizens will be able to take police, fire service and ambulance services. No cost to the customer for this.

National help desk 999 was introduced on 21 October last year on experimental basis. It allows citizens to call emergency services from any end of the country.

In order to make the number known in the country and to provide emergency services to a large number of people, in 64 districts 999, publicity and Community Safety Awareness Workshop was held.

Several experiments were discussed after the experimental launch. Of which, on November 15 last year, a bus driver traveling from Uttara to Khilkhet in the capital, seeing an old woman lying on the street, told the phone at 999. After 999 the fire service was connected. The fire service recovered the injured elderly and admitted him to hospital.

And earlier this year a media office in Gulshan-1 of the Gulshan-1 factory was set on fire. An activist immediately called on 999 and informed the fire that the fire service was immediately set on fire.

In just 100 days of launching the experimental work, citizens have made 9 lakh calls to this National Help Desk. Of these, 19 thousand people took different emergency services.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal will be the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of 999, State Minister for Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak, public safety secretary Kamal Uddin Ahmed will be present.

In the year 2015, the IT department started the construction of a number for the first time as a National Help Desk, choosing 999 and building its structure. Later, the final test was conducted from October 2016 to June this year.
