In the last fiscal year, 15 lakh 57 thousand SIMs have been closed in the country due to the involvement of illegal voice call business. Still, it is 26 percent less than the previous year.

According to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission estimates, 20 lakh 99 thousand SIM operators have been closed in all the operators due to the involvement of illegal voice call business in the financial year 2015-2016. The number of a closure of the fiscal year 2016-17 decreased by 5 lakh 42 thousand.

This information was found in the annual report of BTRC’s 2016-17 financial year.

The concerned people say that after the registration of biometric country in 2016, SIM-centric illegal activities started to come down. The use of SIM business in the voice call is less like it has been in the past because of its use.

The BTRC is in operation with the help of the law enforcing agencies and stopped the SIM. In this case, 2016-17 fiscal year only 33 thousand SIMs have been closed.

On the other hand, the number of SIMs closed by the self-regulatory process of operators is 13 lakh two thousand. Out of this, two hundred 23 thousand SIMs have been discontinued in the SIM box detection process of BTRC.

In the last fiscal year, Teletalk has topped all the seams on the list. Their 1.51 million closed seams are 5 lakh 17 thousand. However, the number of those sealed in the previous year was up to 1.2 million.

Airtel, which was merged with Robi, had an estimated number of three lakhs 70 thousand in that year.

Grameenphone’s closed SIM 3,31,000 Robi SIM number 3 lakh 13 thousand And only 24 thousand 777 SIM numbers of Banglalink have been closed due to the involvement of illegal voice call business.
